Chiropractor In Willowbrook IL | Nature's Recommendations for Weight Loss

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:  I don’t believe in all those faddish miracle diets that are plastered all over the Internet, the television, and the magazine racks at the supermarket.  I believe that the best way to achieve weight loss is to eat whole, healthy foods combined in such a way that our bodies receive balanced, full nutrition, combined with exercise and holistic healthcare such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, and herbals.

The Lie Behind Sugar-Free Products -

Low fat and low sugar-or even worse, fat-free and sugar-free-products typically aren’t good for you, because something has to make up for that fat and sugar that’s missing, and usually whatever’s making up for it isn’t natural and isn’t good-to put it as plainly as possible.  Take diet sodas and artificial sweeteners, just for the sake of example.

We all know that sugar is an enemy of weight loss.  What is possibly not such common knowledge is that diet sodas and artificial sweeteners are also enemies of losing weight, not to mention health in general.

The Aspartame found in diet sodas and artificial sweeteners can actually make you gain weight, because it increases cravings for carbohydrates.  But what’s even worse news is that it can cause symptoms in many people that are consistent with systemic lupus and multiple sclerosis.  Some-possibly a lot-of diet soda drinkers and artificial sweetener users have actually been misdiagnosed as having one of these diseases.

Using Stevia to Sweeten Weight Loss -

Now take nature’s suggested alternative to all of that artificiality.  Stevia is an herb from South America that natives have been using as a sweetener for hundreds of years.  It has no calories and, unlike Aspartame products, it actually reduces cravings for fat and sugar.

Stevia has properties that aid the body in its battles against both diabetes and cancer.  Scientists also are coming to suspect that stevia may assist in correcting a defect in the hunger mechanism that signals the brain that the body is full; frequently, this mechanism isn’t functioning properly in people who suffer from obesity.

Nutritional Deficits in Obese People -

Here’s another possible myth-buster for you:  people who are overweight are often frequently malnourished.  Again to put it plainly, their bodies are getting too much of all the wrong stuff and possibly not any of the right stuff.  So what’s the right stuff?

Proteins:  They can increase your metabolism by up to 30 percent and aid in balancing the release of insulin, among other things.  Complex carbohydrates that also contain protein, such as tofu, lentils, plain baked potatoes, sesame seeds, beans, brown rice, whole grains, skinless turkey or chicken breast, and whitefish.

Fresh fruits and raw vegetables:  One meal each day should be made up only of fruits and vegetables.  Raw foods are best, but if you must cook them, bake, broil, steam, or boil-don’t fry!  Some fat is necessary, but it must be good fat, such as from avocados, olives and olive oil, raw nuts and seeds, and wheat and corn germ.

I promise, it’s not as hard or as complicated as it might sound.  Really, it’s nothing more than common sense.  And take it from me-listen to nature, and the results will be amazing.

HealthSource would like to present you with a limited time complimentary consultation, a $179.00 value.  To Find the closest chiropractic office near you,  go to http://healthsourceofWillowbrook.com or call 1-888-977-6734 today.

Chiropractor In Goose Creek SC| For Healthy Weight Loss Eat More of These Foods

Chiropractor In Goose Creek SC| For Healthy Weight Loss Eat More of These Foods

So often when you begin a weight loss program it begins with a big, long list of all the foods that you are not allowed to eat. Today we are going to flip it around and talk about all of the fabulously healthy foods that will nourish and heal your body–clean foods that will help you lose weight.

While we are talking about all of the delicious, healthy foods you can eat for weight loss, there are some foods that you have been eating that you will definitely have to eliminate from your diet. But, you will be bombarded with so many alternative good choices that you won’t even miss them!

If you can cut just 100 calories from each meal that’s a bonus five pounds lost over the course of a year without breaking a sweat. You see, it all adds up: 100 calories x 3 meals per day x 52 weeks = 15,600 calories eliminated in a year, or one pound lost for every 3,500 calories you eliminate from your diet.

Here are a couple of quick notes before we get to specific foods:

“    Eat a diet rich in lean proteins to help you lose more fat (and specifically belly fat) and build more lean muscle.

“    Eat six smaller meals distributed throughout the day rather than three main meals.

“    Weight training will help you boost your metabolism and burn more fat in addition to sculpting a lean, sexy body.

Now, let’s get to the food. Here are some delicious, healthy foods to add to your diet that will fuel your body and your weight loss efforts:

Eggs:
A good source of protein, you should eat the whole egg because they will help you lose weight and make you feel full longer.

Oats:
Steel cut and rolled oats contain as much as five grams of fiber in each serving. Instant oatmeal has less fiber, and is usually full of sugar. A bowl of oatmeal will digest slowly over the course of the morning giving you energy and keeping your blood sugar levels even.

Salmon:
This heart healthy protein is full of Omega-3 fatty acids which help build lean muscle and decrease that stubborn belly fat.

Yogurt:
A perfect source of carbs, protein and fat, plain yogurt makes a great snack, but be wary of the high sugar content of certain brands.

Blueberries:
High in antioxidants and lots of other nutrients, blueberries also contain 3.6 grams of fiber per cup.

Leafy Green Vegetables:
Kale, spinach, Swiss chard and mustard greens are high in vitamins and minerals, while they are low in fat and contain fiber.

Lentils:
These delicious legumes are a great source of protein and fiber that will help keep your blood sugar levels stable.

You know that diets don’t work - that is temporary diets. You know the drill:  a shake for breakfast, another for lunch and then a “sensible” supper? If you just make a few changes here and there but then eventually slip back into your old way of eating you will stay on the dieting rollercoaster until the end. Commit to making permanent, healthy changes and you will keep the weight off for good.

These Car Stunts Work

Posted by Guest on March 8th, 2010

This isnt on about all of the car movies with the big budgets and of course ones with more CGI than 2012 (is that possible?) I am talking about the real stunts, ones that can actually be done. These stunts should most certainly not be tried at home and should only be tried by the people that know how they are doing! Just some of the best ones are her.

Extreme Hill climbing

It would seem that the only way you can pull off something like this is by getting in a dune buggy and just going for it. These are very versatile vehicles and must be the only in the world that could achieve something like this. We are not talking a few steep hills and that’s it but vertical climbs that would be impossible in any other vehicle.

Rally Jumping

Jumping a car over a ramp isnt easy at the best of times and rally cars can be very difficult to manoeuvre which is why the 171ft jump wasn’t an easy one. Someone has done it and survived surprisingly so it is certainly all possible. The one thing that has been questioned, how far can it be jumped?

Two Wheelers
Just because this one seems to be the favourite and the one that people do the most, it doesnt mean it is going to be easy. It does take a lot of effort to do this along with a bit of luck and a lot of skill. Obviously the really hard part is making sure you do not flip the car over.

Loop

This has to be the hardest on the list simply because if you get it wrong you are dead, its as simple as that. You have to get the speed exactly right to be able to pull this one off and that’s the simple part. It takes a lot of skill and knowledge to be able to pull this one off.

There is no way you should be going out and Luton van lease or pickup leasing (I would recommend a car) as these stunts are dangerous and best left to the people that know what they are doing.

Dying – How To Cope With Grief. .

Posted by Guest on March 8th, 2010

While, in many parts of Canada, the majority of people still opt for a traditional burial over cremation, cremation is still on the increase and although there are more costs involved in a burial it is still the preferred burial method.

This may be because families have private burial plots so you can be buried alongside family or it may just be that burials are traditional in the family. Some people do not like the thought of being ‘burned’ and prefer their bodies to be returned to the elements. For whatever reason, it is essential that you make plans regarding your funeral before you die to ensure you receive the funeral you want and deserve.

One of the first things to do is to organise a casket or burial box. Caskets can vary in price from anywhere between $600 and $2000 so be sure to shop around to get the best price. A headstone will also need to be purchased and it is important to know that there will be a yearly fee for the care and upkeep of the gravesiteMaking prior arrangements for your funeral is essential, and relieves your family of the unnecessary stress. When someone dies, friends and family come under immense emotional strain, and if no arrangements have been made they are then left to make these decisions and are unable to mourn you properly.

Generally in Canada, a funeral is divided into three parts.

To start with a visitation ceremony is held in either a funeral home or the deceased’s family home. The open coffin is placed so friends and family can say their final farewells. This normally takes place one or two days prior to the burial.

After the visitation the funeral is held. People can read poems and speeches celebrating the life of the deceased. Many close friends and family may like to read poems and other antidotes about the deceased. A word of comfort from the clergy will be heard and then the coffin closed for the very final time.

Close family or pallbearers then carry the casket to the graveside where the funeral is held.

Funeral homes these days, now offer services which efficiently and easily arrange all aspects of a burial or cremation on your behalf. Funeral directors can offer expert advice and by pre-planning your funeral unnecessary stress is taken off immediate family and friends.

The Whole Things about Headache Medicine

Posted by Guest on March 7th, 2010

I’m sure you wouldnt be surprised to hear the sky high statistics of sufferers of headache. However, a lot of people tend to neglect headache medicine on the first few occasions while experiencing headache. Most people settle for their own medications without seeking medical help or support in curing headahces. In the process some people get addicted to these painkillers which in turn become the cause of the headaches. This home based practice eventually leads to bigger problems as the headaches worsen and could lead to mortal conditions if left untreated.

The most common complaint about headache medicine is that they make the person drowsy. Many people draw away from headache medicine because they complaint of feeling drowsy which impairs the ability to carry out day to day tasks.

Some people neglect headache medicine on the premise that those medicines are too heaty for the body. Feeling dry, uncomfortable and developing pimples, gum boils and even dandruff are common after effects of headache medicine. However, compared to damages that a headache can do to your body in the long run, these minor side effects can be eliminated through home remedies. You should settle for consuming more liquid if your headache medicine makes you too drowsy. King coconut juice is supposed to be a good remedy if you can get your hands on it .

Headache medicine such as triptans used as treatment for migraine headaches can bring forth a lot of problems if you are suffering from heart disease. That is why it is important to observe your signs and symptoms and accurately report it to the doctor in order to help him to diagnose your issue properly. Once your headache is diagnosed properly, you should inform your practitioner of other diseases that you are suffering from and should also mention any medication you are regularly using for those. Informing your medical practitioner this way can save you from a lot of trouble that may spring up due to headache medicine.

If someone tells you that you need not consume the whole dosage prescribed by the doctor, know it to be a myth. It is common for you to start feeling better after a week or so even though the doctor prescribes you medicine for two weeks. If you stop this medicine half way through when you start feeling better again, it is a perfect formula for another episode of headache. So remember to follow the full dose as it is prescribed even if your headache disappears half way.

Chiropractor In Milwaukie OR | Some Headaches are more Dangerous than Others

Posted by Guest on March 7th, 2010

Chiropractor In Milwaukie OR | Some Headaches are more Dangerous than Others

Most headaches are fairly simple to deal with.  They come from excessive tension and, although painful, rarely last more than a few hours.  They respond well to over the counter medications.  Even migraine headaches are better understood these days and can be treated with a variety of medications and lifestyle changes.

There are some headaches, though, that are signals of much more serious underlying conditions.

Symptoms of a Potentially Dangerous Headache -

Certain symptoms accompany headaches that are most likely to be dangerous.

¢    The headache comes on suddenly and produces severe pain
¢    Vision changes, confusion, numbness or loss of consciousness accompany the headache
¢    The headache starts after a blow to the head
¢    Convulsions are experienced
¢    It wakes you in the middle of the night
¢    It repeats in the same spot often

While some of these symptoms constitute a 9-1-1 emergency, such as the convulsions or confusion, others can be dealt with in the morning at your doctor’s office.  Still, they are serious enough conditions to require prompt medical follow up.

An Unusual Cause for Severe Headaches -

For most people the glaucoma develops slowly and regular eye doctor visits prevent serious complications.  For others, glaucoma can come on quite fast.  For the blind, the changes associated with vision are lacking as an important clue.

A case in point is that of New York Governor David Patterson.  After assuming office he was plagued by intense, unidentifiable headaches.  When a battery of tests couldn’t identify a factor someone finally thought to perform an eye exam.  It turned out he had acute glaucoma.

How was this missed?  Patterson is blind, and no one thought to check his eyes, something that would have happened much sooner if he was sighted.  Fortunately, once the source of his pain was found it was easily and quickly treated.

Aneurysm Headaches -

I don’t know anyone who suffers from terrible headaches who doesn’t worry, from time to time, that their headache might be the result of an aneurysm.  An aneurysm is a bulge that occurs in a brain blood vessel at a weakened area of the tissue.  While the aneurysm itself may lie dormant for years and cause no pain, when it begins to leak it produces remarkably painful headaches called subarachnoid hemorrhage headaches.

This is a medical emergency.  If untreated a leak will turn into a rupture and that is an often-fatal situation.  If caught in time, though, most aneurysms are treated successfully with a minimum of fuss, barring the whole concept of brain surgery.

Headaches caused by Brain Tumors -

There is no type of headache directly associated with brain tumors.  There are no classic symptoms.  A brain tumor is more likely to present itself with other symptoms: confusion, seizures and the like.  If a headache is present it is most likely to appear directly above the tumor site, but headaches are more commonly associated with metastatic brain lesions.

Fortunately, most headaches are relatively benign.  A few hours, some over the counter medication and learning to manage your stress better is all most people need to overcome head pain.  If you do recognize yourself in any of the above symptoms, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with your doctor or head to the ER.  Better safe than sorry.

Treatment Options for Multiple Sclerosis

Posted by Guest on March 6th, 2010

If you have recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, one of the first things you are going to want to know about is treatment options. While there is no cure for MS, there are effective options for treatment. These treatments can change the way that the disease affects you, and stave off common problems for a long period of time as well. In particular, treatment options can help to ward off exacerbations. Exacerbations are also known as attacks, flare-ups, or relapses.

There are many medications that are used for the purpose of reducing the progression and activity of the disease. These medications include Avonex, Betaseron, Copaxone, Extavia, Novantrone, Rebif, and Tysabri. You should discuss these medications with your doctor to find out which one – if any – you should be taking. These are known as disease-modifying drugs. These drugs are not cheap, but there are financial assistance programs available through a variety of pharmaceutical companies.

When an exacerbation occurs, it happens because of an inflammation in the central nervous system. If the attack does not last for more than twenty-four hours, it is not considered an exacerbation. Furthermore, a true exacerbation should not occur within thirty days of a past exacerbation. Exacerbations can last as little as a few days, or as long as several months, and they can be mild or severe. If the exacerbation is mild, your doctor will most likely wait it out. If it is severe however, you will most likely be treated with high doses of a corticosteroid.

In terms of dealing with the symptoms of MS, your doctor will make many suggestions. This will include an appropriate exercise program, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other forms of rehabilitation therapies and other forms of treatment. He or she will also recommend various assistive devices, as they are needed. You may also need cognitive and vocational rehabilitation as well.

With your doctor and his or her approval, you should also explore alternative treatment options that include yoga, herbal healing, Chinese Medicine, naturopathy, hypnosis, and relaxation techniques, as many people who have MS have found that these types of alternative treatments are actually very beneficial as well – when they are used in concert with traditional treatment options. It is important to understand that these alternative treatments do not cure MS any more than traditional treatments do, but when combined, they can make it easier to live with multiple sclerosis.

Watching Your Body for Problem Changes

Posted by Guest on March 6th, 2010

Our bodies are changing all of the time – from the minute we are born until we die. We expect changes, and most changes happen so gradually that we rarely even pay much attention to them. Unfortunately, this lack of attention could be a bad thing, because we need to be aware of certain changes that indicate a problem.

Each day, take stock in how you feel from a mental standpoint and a physical standpoint. It is best to do this in the morning, when you are fresh. Do you feel okay? Are there any unusual aches and pains? If so, is this new? Is there an explanation for the aches and pains that you feel?

Next, take your time in the shower. Examine your body for changes – especially for any lumps or moles. Pay close attention to moles noting how they look, their color, their size, and their shape, and if they change, immediately visit your doctor. Also visit your doctor if new moles appear just to be on the safe side. Also look for skin discoloration, changes in the moisture level of your skin, and bruising that is unexplained. Use your own good judgment and call or visit your doctor with concerns.

Are you losing more hair than usual? We all lose hair each and every day, and that hair is replaced by new hair in most cases. If you are losing more hair than usual, this could indicate a health problem. Visit your doctor just to be sure that everything is okay.

Our vision gets poorer as we age, but sudden or fast changes in vision could be a problem. Visit your eye doctor to make sure everything is okay. Also, visit your dentist twice a year, and keep an eye on your gums, your tongue, and your breath to ensure that everything is okay from a health standpoint as well.

Check your fingernails and toenails at least once a week for changes. Have they suddenly become dry and brittle? Are they breaking more easily? This isn’t about aging. Make sure that your fingernails are the right color as well.

Again, we change every minute, from the time that we are born, but those changes should be very gradual and they only represent aging and not health problems. However, sudden or unusual changes could be cause for concern, and do warrant a visit to your doctor just to be on the safe side. The best cure for any illness or disease is prevention – but catching illnesses and diseases early is equally important.

How to Prevent Low Back Pain in the Office

Posted by Guest on March 4th, 2010

HealthSource Chiropractor | How to Prevent Low Back Pain in the Office

Sitting on your bum all day may seem like a dream come true, but those who get the “privilege” of doing it know all to well the health risks involved with being glued to the seat of a chair for hours on end. Sitting down all day can place excess pressure on the spine and back muscles, and make you more prone to low back pain.

Practice Workspace Ergonomics to Prevent Back Pain

Sitting in the wrong type of office chair can be one of the primary reasons for low back pain in the workplace. An office chair should offer good low back support. So when you scoot your bottom all the way to the back of the chair, there should be a cushion that contours to the arch of your back. Your office chair should also have an armrest to take unnecessary pressure off your neck, and shoulders.

Adjust the height of your chair so that your desk is elbow height, and your computer screen is eyelevel. And when you sit in your office chair, maintain proper posture to minimize stress and strain on the back.

Sit with your rear touching the back of the chair, and your shoulders back. Avoid scooting your neck, slumping forward, or allowing your spine to curve in the “C” position.

Women are always encouraged to sit like ladies with their legs or ankles crossed. But if you goal is to prevent low back pain, sitting this way is not a good idea. Instead, keep your feet flat on the floor. If your feet won’t touch the floor, use a sturdy footstool.

Get up and step away from your desk every thirty minutes to walk around and stretch your back a bit to prevent stiffness from setting in. If your office provides you with a shabby office chair, you aren’t necessarily stuck with it. Talk to your supervisor to see if it’s okay for you to bring a chair that’s more appropriate. More often than not, your boss will allow it.

Take Care of Your Back at Home

Even though your goal is to prevent back pain in the office, true back pain management starts at home. So exercise regularly to strengthen the muscles in the abdominals and back. This will help support the spine and improve posture. Stretching should also be done on a regular basis to keep the spine pliable.

Eat plenty of foods that are rich in calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium for strong bones. This is especially important if you are older, as conditions such as osteoarthritis increase the risk of injuries to the spine.

Foods that are full of vitamin D include salmon, mackerel, cod liver oil, and fortified milk and juices. Dairy products are rich in calcium. And spinach and broccoli are rich in magnesium.

Sitting on your duff at work all day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be; it can cause strain on the back muscles, and damage the spine. But if you adhere to proper ergonomics and keep the trunk muscles conditioned, you can reduce the risk of back pain in the office.

Ski Away The Winter Blues

Posted by Guest on March 4th, 2010

Often the winter season causes us to need a break from work and school. A ski vacation or even day trip is an excellent way to get away and have that needed break. Good planning is necessary to get the most out of the trip.

While there are many people who are able to take a one-day ski vacation and be back home at work the next day, others must plan to take a few days to travel to a resort for skiing. Either way, without the correct equipment, your winter vacation can become a miserable experience.

With deaths of celebrities such as Jon Denver and Sonny Bono, the world has started to realize the importance of head protection while skiing. A Giro ski helmet protects the brain during an accident. Use of this piece of equipment can help to prevent serious brain injuries or even death. Ski helmets should be worn by both children and adults.

It is often difficult to keep track of time when you are having a great time. However, you do not want to miss planned times that the family or your group is to meet, so be sure to put on your black sport watch before you leave on the trip. The waterproof watch will endure all the moisture and you will not ruin your expensive chronograph while skiing.

When you are finished for the day and ready to head into town to grab dinner, remember that even though you have left the slopes there may be snow on the ground in the resort town. Your brown boots will keep your feet warm and dry during the trip. A boot drier will have them warm and dry for the next morning when you head out to breakfast.

Skiing calls for plenty of warm waterproof clothing. These will help keep you both warm and dry each day. Nylon jackets and ski bibs repel the moisture of the snow and can easily be dried overnight so they are ready for the next day.

If you own your own skis, you will want to be sure that you take them to the local ski shop for waxing and tuning before heading off to your vacation. You do not want to be stuck with your skis in the shop during the few days you get to spend on the slopes.

If you are having a difficult winter, consider taking time for a winter break. The time on the slopes is great exercise and everyone can use the fresh air and sunshine that are often a part of skiing.
